Notes from the President

Jason Matz, President, 248-227-9992

Eleven months ago I started on my journey as your 54th President of the Rochester Jaycees. While the year has been quite a whirlwind it is definitely an experience that I will carry with me well after the Jaycees have kicked me out, i.e. aged out. This year our chapter has seen a lot of changes, we have seen four pillars of our chapter age out and have seen others join and pitch in to help out on our projects.

As we transition from 2009 to 2010 and beyond it is important that each of us do our part to share the Jaycees with everyone we know. While the Jaycees are not for everyone, we do need to share our experiences so people can decide if it is for them. Invite friends out to events or share a story about the Jaycees. Please let them decide if the Jaycees are for them.

In December there are many projects for you to take advantage of and participate, such as the Christmas Party, Christmas Parade, Christmas Shopping Tour and of course the General Membership Meeting, please bring a friend.

I would like to thank those members that have been such a great asset to our chapter for so many years. Pam Bubnar, Cheryl Satterthwaite, David Silver, and Elspeth Coats, thank you so much for your years of service and you are always welcome.

Finally, I must thank my Board of Directors for a job well done. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Best of luck for those of you who will be serving on the board next year and I look forward to serving as your Chairman of the Board.

Christmas Shopping Tour

Jason Matz, President, 248-227-9992

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2009 @ 7 AM

MEIJER AT ROCHESTER AND AUBURN & THE OLDER PERSONS COMMISSION

It is time once again for the Rochester Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour. Every year we team up with the Rochester Area Neighborhood House to bring Christmas cheer to Children and their families who may not otherwise be able to celebrate Christmas.

Through the RANH we have found 30 needy children. We will take these children shopping at Meijer for gifts for their family. Then the children will board shuttles and be taken to the Older Persons Commission where they will wrap the gifts for their families, have pizza, and participate in arts and crafts. Then, to culminate the day’s festivities, the children will be visited by Santa and receive presents from Santa.

Your help is needed for this very special day to either help take children shopping or to help coordinate the activities at the different sites. If you are interested in helping please contact Jason Matz at 248-227-9992 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you out there.

How to Plan the Perfect Event – CPG Training

MONDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2009 @ 7:00 PM

DAN & JOCELYN MOELLERING’S HOUSE – 788 FRANCIS, ROCHESTER HILLS

Do you stress out over planning a birthday party, holiday or anniversary? Do you think the Jaycees should run specific programs that you haven’t seen in the past few years? Have you had to run an event year after year and forgot to correct the mistakes you made the previous years? The Jaycees have your solution!

The purpose of our Organization is to build stronger civic leaders in the community. We do this a number of ways. One of our key tools is the Chairpersons Planning Guide (aka. CPG). This is a planning tool that you can use when planning chapter projects, work programs or personal gatherings. This process helps you layout your plan, set goals, budget finances and evaluate how you did making recommendations for the future.

Michigan Jaycees President Fay Poissant will be our trainer for this training. As a seasoned member of the organization, President Fay has both written and judged these documents on the state level. She can offer advice to those who know the process and are looking to be better at it and will be there to teach us the process from square one.

There is no cost for this training. We look forward to seeing everyone out to learn more about this extremely valuable tool that the Jaycees offer.

Rochester Jaycees Holiday Party

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2009 @ 7:30 PM

KEITH & HEATHER LAKATOSH’S HOUSE – 32651 MCCONNELL CT., WARREN

You are cordially invited to the Rochester Area Jaycees Holiday Party. We are thankful for all of your help with our various projects in 2009 ask you to come and celebrate our 51st successful year as a Jaycee Chapter. We will be celebrating at the home of our incoming President, Mr. Keith Lakatosh.

In keeping with tradition, you are asked to bring a White Elephant gift for the event. Our definition of a White Elephant Gift is quite literally anything. It can be a re-gift, a funny gift, something useful or something completely useless, there are no rules. The more outlandish the gift is, the more fun it creates. There is no price minimum to spend and no need to spend money at all if you have something around the house. Please bring the gift wrapped for the gift swap.

Please bring an appetizer, snack or dessert to pass. The chapter will provide Soft Drinks and some beer and Wine but if you have a particular favorite, please BYO. We look forward to celebrating the season and the ending to a great year with all of you.

We’d like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and effort towards making this project a success. We’re looking forward to even more of you coming out next year, as we always need help with set-up, manpower during the event, and tear-down. Thank you!
