In late May, we will once again participate in a Poker Room at Big Beaver Tavern in Troy. The dates are May 27-30th – we need volunteers in shifts from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM. Money from this event will help us with community projects through out the year. Please sign up for a shift using this link:
During Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th), we will take part in Rochester Heritage Days at the Municipal Park in downtown Rochester. The Jaycees will have our Rock Wall/Extreme Jumper as a fundraiser for the chapter. In addition, we will also have a booth to recruit new members and survey community members on ways that the Jaycees can benefit the community. We do need help with this event – please sign up for a shift using this link:
Please join us for our next General Membership Meeting on Thursday, May 9th at 7:00 PM. We will be meeting at the Rochester Community House. Please come to hear about some great projects and events that we have planned.
For 35 years, the Rochester Area Jaycees have helped teach 4, 5, and 6-year-olds to develop an understanding of safety in their environment as well as a healthy awareness of danger by navigating the streets of Safety Town, a miniature town complete with buildings, cars, bikes, traffic lights, and signs. Each year we present three summer sessions of Safety Town. This year the first session begins on Monday, June 17th at Delta Kelly Elementary School. We are currently seeking instructors and teen helpers for the project.
Please share this letter with your teacher friends who may be able to teach at Safety Town.
Teen Helper Application:
Please share this application with any teenagers who may be interested in helping this summer.
Safety Town Setup:
We need help setting up at the school on Saturday, June 15th starting at 11 AM. The school is located on Adams Road in Oakland Township. Please e-mail Julia Webber if you are able to help on June 15th.
On Saturday, June 22nd our chapter will once again participate in the Rochester Area Relay for Life at Hart Middle School. The event is a 24 hour event that starts at 9 AM on June 22nd and concludes at 9 AM on June 23rd. We need help on site with our fund raising event and also help taking turns walking the course. Please join our team online or contact Julia Webber at email@example.com if you can participate this year in Relay for Life.
The next Jaycees Board Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 7th at 7:00 PM. The meeting will take place via conference call/online. If you are interested in joining us for the board meeting, please e-mail Michael Webber at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will provide details on how to join the call.
Please join us for our next General Membership Meeting on Thursday, March 14th at 7 PM. We will be meeting in the back room at Mr. B’s in downtown Rochester (and not at the Rochester Community House – please take note – for this month only). As part of this meeting, we are also hosting an Appreciation Night for our Members, Senators and Alumni. We will have pizza and pop as part of the meeting.
As part of our March 14th General Membership Meeting/Appreciation Night, we will host a special speaker from the Michigan Jaycees – President John Badeen. Our state president has agreed to speak at our meeting to provide an update on what is happening at the state level. Please join our members and alumni for this special event for our chapter.
Our first major community service project of 2013 is approaching in March. Each year our chapter creates thirty Easter bags full of household goods to deliver to homebound seniors before Easter. With Easter Sunday coming up on March 31st, we will be working to deliver Easter baskets on March 29 and March 30. Please consider helping us to deliver some baskets this year within the Rochester area. In addition, we are seeking a Chairperson for this event that can assemble the bags (buying the household items with money budgeted by the chapter) and organize the deliveries. Please contact Michael Webber if you are interested in helping with this project.
