Continue reading »]]> The Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade is annual tradition in the Rochester Area and of the Rochester Area Jaycees. The parade has grown throughout the years and is today one of the largest in the state of Michigan.

This year, the parade is on Sunday, December 4, 2011 and begins at 1:45 p.m. at the corner of Tienken and Rochester Roads and continues south along Main Street to Third Street in Downtown Rochester. The theme for the 2011 parade will be Six Decades of Christmas Joy.

The Rochester Area Jaycees will be delivering Santa’s Mailbox from Stoney Creek High School through Downtown Rochester. The Parade will be televised on Channel 7 in the Detroit Area. This is a huge event in the Rochester area and being a part of it is a great honor and privilege for our chapter.

Please plan on marching in the parade with us on Sunday, December 4th from 1:45 pm – 4:00 pm. If you would like to help with decorating the float, please come at 10:30 a.m. to the staging area at Stoney Creek High School.

Continue reading »]]> The members of the Rochester Area Jaycees will conclude the 2011 year with a celebratory dinner on Saturday, December 17. The Year End Celebration provides the chapter with an opportunity not only to reflect on our accomplishments but also to enjoy a festive meal and to thank our fellow members for their commitment and support throughout the year.

The dinner will be at Rojo Mexican Bistro in Downtown Rochester on the corner of 4th and Main at 7:00 p.m. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided by the chapter. MEIJER AT ROCHESTER AND AUBURN & THE OLDER PERSONS COMMISSION

It is time once again for the Rochester Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour. Every year we team up with the Rochester Area Neighborhood House to bring Christmas cheer to Children and their families who may not otherwise be able to celebrate Christmas.

Through the RANH we have found 30 needy children. We will take these children shopping at Meijer for gifts for their family. Then the children will board shuttles and be taken to the Older Persons Commission where they will wrap the gifts for their families, have pizza, and participate in arts and crafts. To culminate the day’s festivities, the children will be visited by Santa and receive presents.

Your help is needed for this very special day to either help take children shopping or to help coordinate the activities at the different sites. If you are interested in helping please contact Michael Webber at 248-375-0858 or mwebber@rajc.org. We look forward to seeing you out there.

Continue reading »]]> Santa’s Mailbox is returning once again to Downtown Rochester. Children of Rochester are invited to mail their letters to Santa by depositing them in the mailbox on the corner of 4th and Main Streets from now until Friday, Dec. 16th. Children who drop their letters in the box will receive a letter addressed to them from one of Santa’s elves.

The Jaycees will be escorting the mailbox down Main Street during the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 4th. Please join the rest of the chapter in marching in the parade. Please contact Dan Moellering at dmoellering@rajc.org if you are interested in helping out with the Letters to Santa project.

The second Thursday of every month, we have a General Membership Meeting to go over upcoming projects. Our meetings are held at the Rochester Community House which is located at 816 Ludlow in downtown Rochester. Ludlow runs north off University Drive (Walton Blvd), approximately one half mile east of Livernois (or one half mile west of Main Street/Rochester Rd). We encourage you to come early and mingle before the meeting. This month we will be wrapping gifts for the Christmas Shopping Tour so please plan on attending.

If you’ve been thinking about taking on a leadership role within the Rochester Area Jaycees, now’s the time to help steer our chapter for the 2012-2013 year.

During the October General Membership Meeting, the elections committee of Pam Bubnar, Doug Allen, and Paula Peters opened the floor for nominations to next year’s board.  Those who have been nominated will receive a call from one of us before our elections held at the November GMM.  So there’s still time to think about what you can do to support the board next year.

If you have questions about what it takes to be a member of the Board of Directors, feel free to call one of the Election Committee members or a current board member.  A potential officer’s training will also be held prior to the election.
